New technique for construction of tissue heart valves.

چکیده
A new technique for the construction of frame-supported tissue heart valves made of dura mater is presented. Three symmetrical pieces of pentagon-shaped tissue are used instead of the conventional quadrangular shape. A symmetrical trileaflet valve with adequate coaptation and less spherical formation of the cusps is obtained. The design characteristics suggest that regurgitation through the valve will be prevented, there will be less resistance to flow, and less strain on the leaflets during closure. This technique has been applied clinically in 37 patients with very satisfactory early results. A longer follow-up of the patients is necessary for comparison of the results with other techniques of construction.

Frame-mounted tissue heart valves: technique of construction.
Since the first frame-mounted fascia lata heart valves were used clinically (Ionescu and Ross, 1969), over 260 tissue valves made of autologous or homologous fascia lata or of heterologous pericardium have been inserted at this institution in the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid positions. Encouraged by our results, especially with aortic valve replacement, over more than four and a half years (Io...

In this review, the anatomy and structure of the aortic valve and its prostheses are comprehensively discussed. Cardiac anatomy and function, human heart valves and their prostheses are also extensively discussed. The current status of prosthetic heart valves along with the next generation of these devices is broadly deliberated. Ather promising options such astranscatheter technologies (percut...

Objective(s): Tissue engineering represents a new approach to solve the current complications of the heart valve replacements by offering viable valve prosthesis with growth and remodeling capability. In this project, electrospinning and dip coating techniques were used to fabricate heart valve constructs from medical grade polyurethane (PU). Methods: Fir...
متن کاملDesign and fabrication of three-dimensional scaffolds for tissue engineering of human heart valves.
We developed a new fabrication technique for 3-dimensional scaffolds for tissue engineering of human heart valve tissue. A human aortic homograft was scanned with an X-ray computer tomograph. The data derived from the X-ray computed tomogram were processed by a computer-aided design program to reconstruct a human heart valve 3-dimensionally. Based on this stereolithographic model, a silicone va...

Several prostheses are available to replace degenerative diseased aortic valves with unique advantages and disadvantages. Bioprotheses show excellent hemodynamic behavior and low risk of thromboembolic complications, but are limited by tissue deterioration. Mechanical heart valves have extended durability, but permanent anticoagulation is mandatory. Tissue engineering created a new generation h...
